Karaka Cricket Club

Junior Club Vision

"It is our aim to offer all members in our Karaka Club the most satisfying and enjoyable experience as is possible in the game of cricket."

We will achieve this by ensuring that our club has a healthy culture of recognising: -

  1. That all players are here firstly for FUN
  2. That all players are individuals first and cricketers second
  3. That all players are given equal opportunity to practice the skills of their choice both at training and in the game.
  4. That different players have different needs and that no player has the right to take away the enjoyment of another
  5. That we provide safe and modern facilities and equipment for players
  6. That we provide the highest quality of coaching available in order that the players develop their skills to the best of their ability
  7. That we provide a community culture within our club that cares for all players and spectators creating a desire to watch, play and enjoy cricket
  8. That the goal for coaches is to ensure that at the end of the season that each individual has developed a love for the game that will have them wanting to return to play next season.

History of Karaka Cricket Club

The club initially started as a junior only club in 1984.   One year later in 1985 the club as we now know it was formed with the first senior team being a B Grade Competition team.  A Senior A team was fielded in 1987 with the arrival of most of the Rosehill College 1st XI and so started the strong bond between Karaka Cricket Club and Rosehill College Cricket players.  This bond continues today and now with the inclusion of Strathallan most of our senior players come from these two colleges, along with our own strong junior club.

Over the past twenty years the club has had many age group and senior Counties Manukau representative players, also Northern Districts and National representatives. The highest achievement (so far) being Richard deGroen and Blair Pocock who both played for New Zealand in 1993.
