Saturday 27 Feb - Senior B Storage Kings
IS THERE A STORAGE QUEEN IN THE MAKING?
With a semi final spot on the line you would have thought that the Storage Kings would have put up more of a fight. O.K we did win the verbal but we helplessly out played on the field. Only the Storage King himself David Jenkins put up any fight smashing 92 in a feeble total of 168. Jenks toyed with the fielders sending the ball straight over their heads on numerous occasions but when his team needed him to stay in the most he self destructed and with a rush of blood put one straight up in the air.
Our fielding wasn’t much better dropping key chances which may have put more pressure on the Puke team. No one really stood out in the field except Boozer who stood up and showed the Puke Prem player that we can give out the verbal as good as any one in any of the Counties Manukau Cricket grades.
But possibly the best news of the weekend was in morning cricket when the Storage Queen herself Miss Alexandra Schofield caught and bowled Ryan “Big Guns” Bullock in a display of bowling that would have Ryan questioning his manhood. When speaking to Ms Schofield about her wicket she explained how easily it was to get him out. I bowled him two out swingers in which he struggled to lay bat on ball. I then bounced him which had him ducking for cover then I followed it up with a slower ball, in which he offered me the simplest of caught and bowleds.
Well done Alex maybe you would be more use to us than Scho at the moment.
Saturday 20 February - Senior B Storage Kings
HURRICANE SCOTT DECIMATES GLENBROOKE MARAMARUA
What an absolute display of power hitting we were witness to today. Wellington bound Scott Thorburn scored his maiden club century, lost two balls and had the Glenbrook team waving the white flag as he pounded 8 sixes and 8 fours in a match winning 109 not out. Well done Scott we love you.
I arrive at the ground and Baha tells me he’s suffering from gangrene and can’t play. He then proceeds to rark up the locals and have them threatening to set his dogs on us and kill us, great. Being a home game for us I was put in the awkward position of tossing on foreign territory. But being the supreme tosser that I am we inserted them in to bat.
This seemed like the dumbest move ever, the temperature was disgustingly hot and along with Dayle Budge smashing us all over the park we were struggling to stay focused. We were that delirious we gave Monty a bowl thinking he could bounce Budge out. One over later he had bowled twelve balls and gone for 25 runs. Fitzpatrick then takes the key wicket of Budge for a clean hit 70 and they were off to a flyer. Zac Hope proceeds to carry out one of the biggest sins in cricket, bowling someone off a no ball. At drinks they were 137/2 and we had taken an age to get there. Part of the reason our over rate was so slow was because we bowled a total of 32 wides and 17 no balls so to bowl 52 overs in just on three hours was a good effort. At the end of the 52 overs they had scored 256. Fitzpatrick was the pick of the bowlers with 4/36. Hope and Chicken with 2 each
Oh my god for the fourth time this year we suffer another Royal Duck. Monty gets number 2 for the season. Jenks and DG get a valuable 50 run partnership. Stu Hope gets hung out to dry by Jenks and he’s run out. Chicken was doing his bit to keep Glenbrook in it by giving a 50/50 stumping, then fires Jenks LBW (LOL) out for 48 and still can’t get this first 50 for the season. Meanwhile Scott Thorburn was just getting into his stride. With DG whining that we were behind the run rate, Thorburn started using that 2nd grade Players to full effect, bulling the reining Senior B One Day Champions to all parts he went from 50 to 109 in just 15 scoring shots. He brought up his ton with another trade mark lofted on drive for 6.
How ironic it was, with them giving us all the grief about our over rate at 7 o’clock we had scored their total in just 35 overs. The season just keeps getting better.
Saturday 13 February
Congratulations to our Premier Team on your well-earned achievement. The Club is extremely proud of you all!
KARAKA ARE TWO-DAY CHAMPIONS!

Karaka has won the W H Taylor Shield after defeating Waiuku by an innings and 31 runs on Saturday but they had to wait five hours to make certain.
Rightfully, it was Todd McDonald who picked up the last wicket that scratched a twelve-year itch for the club and gave them a year’s ownership of the 84 year old W H Taylor Shield. It’s the third time the club has had its name on the shield, the last time was 1997/8 and grants a birthday wish in the club's 25th anniversary year.
Senior B Storage Kings
A KARAKA WEEKEND OF CRICKET
Firstly the Storage Kings would like to congratulate Karaka's championship winning Prem team. This team has completely dominated their comp. Well done guys you have shown the rest of the club what it takes play championship winning cricket.
Back to our game this was more than just a game we wanted to win, we had to win if we wanted to play top four cricket.
This was the emergence of two more than talented players for the Storage Kings. A rise Josh Snell and Zach Hope who for 10 overs produced some of the most scintillating batting ever in the Storage King’s history and had the run rate up to 10 an over. They were just smashing it all over Rosa Burch and they had the helpless Pukekohe attack at their mercy.
So they bat first and Fitzpatrick inflicts a run out in the first over and Baha’s decision to bowl first was justified .We then had an edge to first slip which was turned down. The umpire was then grilled by 8 of the Storage Kings players demanding an explanation why that was not out. Baha throws down the stumps from side on and we had number two. Puke then batted to a strong position at drinks (115/2) Loki takes a key wicket just after drinks with Bambi of a ball, and was the pick of the bowling attack. With some added extras in the 2nd to last over thanks to Scotty T with 10 wides they achieved a formidable 275/6.
For the 3rd time this year the Kings suffer a Royal and a dejected Naidoo was trudging off the park. In his last match before uni McRae had high hopes of making a decent score but when he was out there was as many runs as wickets ( 2/2) it looked like Mauku all over again. This was when Hope and Snell proceeded to turn the game in the Kings favor. A gob smacked Puke had no answer to the onslaught. They weren’t having dirty hacks they were just playing brilliant cricket shots. After a 122 run partnership off 10 overs the entertainment was over with Hope holed out in the deep for 44 off 27 deliveries. Snell carried on and managed to hit one over the massive Rosa Birch boundary. He was in total control and in his own words feeling the adrenaline. With eyeballs as big as saucers he was timing them so well he over timed a block and was caught at mid off out for 76 off 60 balls. The Kings were always ahead of the run rate but were loosing too many wickets. This was when Scotty T and DG got together and put on an impressive 80 run partnership. But when Thorburn was bowled by Mikhunter for 38 off 20 balls the game was in the balance. Booza and Baha got us close till Baha hits a full toss to square leg. All we had left was Chicken, he scratched around and feed the strike to Booza who not for the first time this season he hits the winning runs.
Top four cricket here we come. Awesome effort guys.
Saturday 30 January - Senior B Storage Kings
Return of the King
With only three balls being bowled the Kings took a staffie x boxer like choke hold around Kuras neck and proceeded to suck the life out of a team which has caused so much heartache and suffering for the Storage Kings and their supporters.
Baha who seems to have the toss down to a fine art took the team’s advice and bowled first. Then it was on Schofield v McEvoy and after only three balls Steve’s season from hell continued with some fine glove work from Monty. (Thanks for walking). It was about this time that Kura would have thought that playing on the grass was not such a good idea. Things then just went from bad to worse for the reining R1 champs. Chicken bowling an impeccable Todd McDonald like line and length from one end bowled a Storage King record of three consecutive maidens, which allowed Scho to carve his way through the Papkura top order. He showed a true Jeckyll and Hyde like performance, after being so rubbish last week he turned in a true fringe prem like performance of 5/9 off seven overs. Kura showed little or no fight and without Boozer gifting them over half their runs off his seven overs we could have bowled them out for under 50. Fitzpatrick was charging in and turning it square on the grass proving the Kings do have options at the bowling crease picking up 2/5 off four overs. When the tenth wicket fell the Kings had put their demons to bed and Kura had witnessed what it would take to be a true top four contender, being bowled out for 66.
Chasing 66 should get that and be back to the club by four yeah right. DG decides to dig in and not even attempt to hit the ball. He contributed 1 off 15 overs and probably played and missed 90% of the time. I’ve heard off seeing of the openers but this was ridiculous. Snell got an absolute ripper of a delivery and will get his chance to wear the skirt. Can’t wait to see those little legs Snelly maybe it will make you run faster. Jenks got ten then packed up and took his beers with him. So it was left up to Fitz and Scho who showed how easy it was to bat on that wicket and had the runs knocked off in no time.
Well done Storage Kings this comp is very winnable.

Karaka Storage Kings Senior B vs Karaka Senior B
Oh when the Kings……
Oh when the Kings go 2 and 0 and you know the rest. As the clock struck seven Bouvaird landed the knock out blow that put an end to any faint hope that the Karaka Senior B team had of playing any finals cricket. Storage Kings on the other hand are right in the thick of things and if they keep winning will be right up there come finals cricket.
With what can only be described as a shocking display of fielding dropping over 10 catches we gave ourselves a total to chase which could prove challenging even for the much revered Storage Kings. With Fitzpatrick on a Hatrick and at 3/40 they were in trouble... Enter David Pearce who just played some absolutely destructive cricket shots and along with Man of the Match Sonny Baja battered them in to a strong position at drinks.( 107/ 3 ) Baha under strict Doctors instructions not to bowl got the vital wicket of Pearce for an aggressively struck 53. Then Sunny took over and showed Scho how to construct a 100. With 17 fours and 1 six he sent the ball to all parts of the KCG, standing unbeaten on 138 at the end of 45 overs. Positives to take out of the field, Nothing even the Stallions would have laughed at our Decrepit Muppet like display of catching.
With dissention in the ranks about the order Fitzy had to send messages to the captain via the player’s ala the Hadlee Coney days that he was not happy. But what proved a master stroke from the rookie captain he came up with an order that battered all the way down to 11 ( and we needed to ) to secure the vital 2 points on offer and to go 2 and 0.
With 2 early wickets and not many runs Luke had thought his birthday wishes had come true, but no enter Scho who showed he is not a 1 trick pony. After bowling like he wouldn’t be out of place in the R1s he proceeded to support DG who scored the innings
High of 68 and get us back on track to overhaul this challenging total of 266 and at drinks we were cruising at 136 for 2. The crowds were waiting for the inevitable Storage King collapse. They didn’t have to wait long as Reece Jones bowling with surprising control got the wicket of DG then Fitzy. Scho reached 50 and got out. With the required run rate climbing we had our two biggest hitters at the crease in Jenks and Scotty T. The other Karaka team was taking an age with field placements and time was not on their side. With 2 more wickets and still needing more than 60 runs a fully detoxed Jenkins showed why he is the Storage King and sent the ball over the rope three times to bring us right back in to it. But when he was out going for his fourth and 1 short of a much deserved 50 this looked like the end of the Kings. It was all up to Loki and Booza with time almost up Baha pulls out the crowd pleasing 7 o’clock call and the Kings were ahead of the run rate. So it was up to the Birthday boy to take 2 wickets in the final over. His wishes did not come true and the Kings put the game beyond doubt by knocking off the runs and calming the supporters on the deck.
Just to make everyone aware when asked in the clubhouse after the match what he would have done about the seven o’clock rule. Mark replied exactly the same.
Thanks for the invite to your party Luke. We hope you had a fantastic night.
Love The Storage Kings xxxooo
KARAKA v MANUKAU CITY - KARAKA SPORTS COMPLEX - Saturday 16 January
Congratulations to our Premier team on their outright win. Right from the first ball of the day, bowled by Todd McDonald and a great catch by M Wood the scene was set for a great day of cricket.

KARAKA v MANUKAU CITY - KARAKA SPORTS COMPLEX
This game had everything. After two days of outstanding cricket which Playstation couldn’t surpass it was almost predictable that it would be a tense and slightly controversial finish to the match.
The two captains, Todd McDonald (Karaka) and Brendon Read (Manukau City) led from the front on both days. They both got five wickets in the first innings and McDonalds century on the first day was almost matched by Read’s double of 42 not out and 54, but McDonald put an end to the head- to head battle by taking another five wickets in the final innings of the game.
Just after 6.30 pm on Saturday evening Todd McDonald's declaration looked like it may have backfired. With nine wickets down the Manukau batsman started to leave the pitch thinking they had saved a draw from the match. They were called back to the crease by the umpires as there was one more over to be bowled in the last hour. The first ball of the over bowled by Simon Beare saw Ivan Burrows caught in the slips by Josh Cole and the game was a Karaka’s.
Karaka 222/10 (T McDonald 123*, D Power 31, B Read 5/23, D Sutherland 3/36) and 201/5 (M Wood 78*, S Kett 35) Manukau City 187/10 (B Simpson 57, S F Allan 48, B Read 42*, T McDonald 5/36, H Wark 3/47) and 208/10(B Read 54, B Simpson 41, T McDonald 5/58). An outright win to Karaka by 28 runs.
Match report Karaka Senior B vs. Tuakau (T. Otterson 62, S. Vogrincic 2-19)
It was a devastating last over loss for Karaka against one of the top teams of the Senior B competition. Karaka needed one wicket and Tuakau needed 5 runs in 2 overs to secure the win. They got there with 4 balls to spare in what was an intensely fought match between two evenly matched sides.
Karaka lost the toss and were put in on a scorching hot day. It proved to be a good decision by Tuakau as Karaka found themselves in a deep hole at 66 for 5. Despite this two of Karakas most consistent run scorers came together again to rescue Karaka from deep trouble.
Nick Wood smashed 34 very quickly until he ran himself out. At the other end Terrence continued his great form until he was caught in the deep in the 43rd over for an entertaining 62. The tail all contributed and got the total to a defendable 210.
Karaka got off to a bad start and it was not until Stefan Vogrincic and Josh Snell got together that the scoring rate plummeted for Tuakau. Along with Ryan Bullock the bowlers managed to get on top of Tuakau and build some real pressure. Amazingly only 8 runs came off the bat against Stefan from his 9 overs. Despite this great fight back from Karaka they let through far too many extras and that proved to be the difference maker between winning and losing. I know the boys will learn from this and they are all looking forward to a huge game this Saturday.
Sat 9th Jan
After day one of round three in the Premier two-day competition Karaka are slightly ahead of competition leaders Manukau. This was due largely to captain courageous Todd McDonald.
Mauku are on top of the Karaka Senior A side after a good batting display from them and some very rusty fielding by the Karaka boys. Karaka still have a good chance of claiming the points though with a lot of batting still in the hutch. The men out are Cody Knight and night watchman David Simpson.
It was great to see all of the support at the club on Saturday and we hope that all will return to see an excicting conclusion to two evenly matched games this week end.
Premier vs Manukau at Karaka
Karaka 222/10 (T McDonald 123*, D Power 31, B Read 5/23, D Sutherland 3/36) Manukau 177/8 (B Simpson 57, S F Allan 48, B Read 35*, T McDonald 3/34, H Wark 3/40).
Courtesy CMCA website - KARAKA v MANUKAU CITY - KARAKA SPORTS COMPLEX - Saturday 9 January
Karaka is the best supported team in terms of spectators, particularly when they are at home. Their loyal fans got full value on Saturday when Karaka batted first, witnessing a century, two golden ducks, a hat-trick and a five-for as Karaka reached 222 all out.
Todd McDonald, Karaka’s skipper, who is well on top of the player points scored an unbeaten 123 but he was almost upstaged by Manukau's Brendon Read. The fast bowler took five wickets including a hat trick. There have only been two Premier hat tricks this season, both at the Karaka Sport Ground. Read's hat trick, his first at this level, was completed when he clean bowled Karaka's young batting prodigy Mat Cole who decided to leave the hat trick ball.
Manukau, who currently lead the title-race, have a job ahead of them next Saturday when they return to the crease on 177/8 with Read not-out on 35. McDonald and Hayden Wark have taken three wickets a-piece for Karaka.
The game resumes at 11am on Saturday 16 January @ Karaka.
