Yrs 7&8 Division 1: 1 day game - Firebirds vs Volts @ Bruce Pulman

A win to the Firebirds (158/7) by one run! Volts 157/6

This was a very competitive game between two similar teams - the winning run coming off the last ball of the game! It was an incredibly hot afternoon with little relief from a slight breeze. A fantastic effort by the Firebirds. Highlights: Bowlers: Tyler 1-13 (4 overs); Navjot 1-15 (3 overs); Sam 1-17 (3 overs); Josh 2-5 (2 overs); Scott 1-26 (5 overs) - Batters: Josh 29; Harry 37 not out; Nathan 34; DJ 13.

Player of the day was Simarpreet with outstanding wicket keeping.

Yrs 7&8 Division 1: 2 day game (13/2 & 20/2) - Firebirds vs Stags @ Waiau Pa

A first innings win to the Firebirds (225/3 & 92/6) - Stags (210/8 & 136/6)

First innings : The Stags batted first and after 40 overs were 210/8. The first wicket didn't fall until the 112th run - a great partnership for Ryan and Shaan. It was a tough day at the office for the Firebirds in steamy conditions and with the short boundaries of Waiau Pa but the team battled on with some good bowling statistics and good wicket keeping by Joshua and 3 good catches by Chad, Harry and Sam - Nathan 3-23 (8 overs); Joshua 2-18 (4 overs); Daniel 1-26 (3 overs); David 2-33 (4 overs).

The Firebirds' first innings saw Scott (63*) & Joshua (74*) - a fantastic first innings partnership of 137.

Second innings: Scott 2-17 (3 overs); Nathan 1-11 (3 overs); Chad 0-7 (3 overs); DJ 1-7 (2 overs); Daniel 1-24 (2 overs); Harry 1-2 (1 over) - restricted the Stags to 136 runs. In reply and with only one hour of play left the Firebirds batted well (Nathan 40; Harry 17; David 10) to complete 12 overs before the game finished. The team's great fielding and wicket keeping continues.

Friday 12.2.10

Years 3&4 - Karaka Blue 91 / 8 (67) beat Clevedon White 86 / 12 (50)

For Karaka Blue Logan Kemp was player of the day with a sharp catch on the off side looking into the sun.

Top scores for Karaka Blue were Christian 15 and Jarrod 9. An excellent bowling and fielding display with 7 catches and some good runouts to restrict Clevedon in a close game. At the halfway mark Clevedon were 45/4 (batting second) showing how close it was.

Everyone is improving and it was a very pleasant evening with the sun out and a good turnout of parents. In fact if there hadn’t been a breeze blowing it would have been too hot!!

Saturday 13.2.10

Yrs 7&8 Division 2 - Karaka vs Pukekohe @ Karaka (grass)

It was a great game played on the grass wicket. Thanks to Simon and Hayden for preparing it for us. We were 7 runs short but had wickets in hand.
Connor Lines 31 retired, Bailey Kidd 30 retired, Gautum Kumar 17. Fielding needed more commitment. It was a quick outfield so boundaries were secured regularly by both teams, much to the kids pleasure. Opposition were keen to play on the grass wicket, they had not done that since Kiwi grade.

Friday 5.2.10

Years 3&4 - Karaka Blue 90 / 3 (81) beat Conifer Grove Red Flames 57 / 10 (27)

For Karaka Blue Rohan Kumar was player of the day.

Top scores for Karaka Blue were Jarrod Hill 14, Sean Palmer 14, Joshua Palmer 11.

Most of the team got wickets with their bowling and some good catching.

Saturday 6.2.10

A first innings win to the Firebirds in a rain interrupted game

Yrs 7&8 Division 1: 2 day game - Firebirds (1st innings 222/7 (40 overs); Second innings 64/2 declared (10 overs) vs Volts (1st innings 174/10; Second innings 86/3 (14 overs) @ Rosa Birch

The second day of this two day game was held in much better weather. Rosa Birch looked none the worse for it being under water a week ago! Highlights for the Firebirds were: First innings: DJ 1-13; Chad 1-18; Tyler 2-16; Daniel 1-14; Josh 1-9; Nathan 1-19; Second innings: Scott 2-20; Harry 2-19; Josh 1-15. The shortened second innings saw David repeat his great batting performance with 29 not out and Navjot 15 not out. The Firebirds declared after 10 overs with a combined total and target of 113 for the Volts to achieve in the last hour of play.

The Firebirds' good form continues with some great catches; but the fielding was a bit mediocre guys! Improvement will be essential in our next 2 day vs the Stags.

Firebirds 09/10

Saturday 30 Jan - 1st day: What a stunning first innings (including 31 4s) for the Firebirds!

Highlights were Nathan Brown 78 retired; Harry Plummer 36; David Gibson 32 not out; Daniel Bayly 17; Tyler Forrest 13.

Most of the innings was played in hot & sunny conditions however the weather deteriorated in the last 3 overs with it culminating in a thunder storm which left the coaches the decision not to start the Volts' first innings. The Firebirds & their supporters however were not going to miss out on their bbq sausages and were left celebrating under the gazebo in the torrential rain beside a stormwater drain with Rosa Birch starting to look more and more like a lake. There was a lot of water coming out of that drain by the time the team decided to head home and dry out! Well done team it was a great first innings effort from everyone.

Friday 18.12.09

Yrs 3&4 - Karaka Blue 71 / 1 (68) beat Conifer Grove Sparkles 17 / 4 (5). 10 overs per side.

For Karaka Blue Alexander Shaw was player of the day.

Top scores for Karaka Blue were Sean Palmer 14, Christian Cutfield 11, Joshua Palmer 8. Wickets were taken by Jarrod Hill and Joshua Palmer and there were two runouts.

A one sided affair and after 10 overs per side we combined the teams to allow those from Conifer Grove who wanted to play, some more time out in the middle.

Saturday 19.12.09

Yrs 5&6 Div 2 - Karaka White (95/6) beat Manukau Pirahnas (89/6) in a very close game.

Yrs 7&8 Division 1: 2 day game - Firebirds (1st innings 117/9; 2nd innings 131/8) vs Wizards (1st innings 145/10; 2nd innings 106/2) @ Waiau Pa

A good win to the Wizards, a team we always enjoy playing. Congratulations to Rodger and his team (and supporters).

The Firebirds didn't "fire" but there was some fantastic fielding - catches & run outs. The most spectacular being David Gibson's caught and bowled taking the Wizard's last wicket in the 1st innings with a stretched out one-handed catch straight above his head! Any photos Pete?

Harry Plummer sizzled with 61 not out in the first innings batting at number 3 and Nathan Brown continued his good form with 41 not out in the 2nd innings. Congratulations to Nathan who has been selected for a Northern Districts Rep Squad

As always the outlook from the deck of the Waiau Pa clubhouse was picturesque, the sun shone and it was a great field to end the first half of this season on. To the team and all our supporters Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Friday 11.12.09

Top scores for Karaka Blue were Sean Palmer 23, Christian Cutfield 16, Harrison Clotworthy 13. Wickets were taken by Jarrod Hill, Joshua Palmer, Christian Cutfield, Rohan Kumar, Harrison Clotworthy and Patrick Fulton.

Enthusiastic effort by the whole team with more good batting, some great catches and a couple of good runouts.

Drury 94/6 (76) drew with Karaka 94/6 (76)

Saturday 5.12.09

Yrs 5&6 Div 2

Pukekohe Metro Red (58/5) beat Karaka White (48/4). All Karaka players played really well while fielding. Player of the day was Jordyn Haare for a great catch.

Yrs 7&8 Division 1 - Firebirds 160/2 vs Stags 130/6

Another good win to the Firebirds after winning the toss and electing to bat. With the excellent batting partnership of Joshua Plummer (retired 77) and Nathan Brown (not out 57), some great catches, well executed fielding and consistent bowling the team achieved another well-earned win. Well done to all the team!

Friday 27.11.09

Yrs 3&4 Div 2 Karaka Blue 158 / 3 (149) beat Waiuku 59 / 7 (38)

Saturday 28.11.09

Yrs 5& 6 Div 2 DareDevils 93/7 vs Pink Panthers 80/4

Top Bowlers were Maddie Walters with 2/7 (2 overs), Jaden Hazelwood with 2/14 (4 overs) and Shaun Gallagher 1/10 (2 overs) - Player of The Day went to Brittany Nagle for Great Batting & Wicket Keeping - Congratulations Jason looks like your coaching skills are working well.

Yrs 5&6 Div 2 Karaka White (103/5) lost to Pukekohe Metro Purple (119/2)

Friday 20.11.09

Yrs 3&4 Div 2 Karaka Blue 134 / 2 beat Clevedon Green 36 / 17

For Karaka Blue Harrison Clotworthy was player of the day with 6 runs.

Top scores for Karaka Blue were Sean Palmer 30, Christian Cutfield 11, Joshua Palmer 11, Logan Kemp 10. Best bowling was Joshua Palmer with 2 overs 4 wickets for 1 run but everyone except Jarrod (not playing) and Harrison got wickets with their bowling.

The team continues to improve each week with a very good turnout at practice and the coach (Neeraj) almost having to prize the bat and balls out of their fingers to send them home after the hour is up!!!!

Yrs 3&4 Div 2 KARAKA RED 3/4 98-2 (92) BEAT CONIFER GROVE 72-11 (39)

Saturday 21.11.09

Yrs 7&8 Division 1 - Firebirds 161/3 vs Wizards 158/2

Another close game and good win for the Firebirds. In typical Bruce Pulman Park blustery and cool conditions the Wizards batted first and made a good score of 158/2. However the Firebirds knew quite well they could make a great score as well after last week's game and finished today's game on the first ball of the 29th over with a 4. Both teams struggled in the field with missed catches and missed runouts. The teams were well matched which was great for the spectators but a bit nerve racking for the coaches! Outstanding performances: Nathan Brown 78* and 0-8 (4 overs); Harry Plummer 38 and 1-5 (4 overs) including a wicket maiden in his first over; David Gibson 1-12 (2 overs). Well done to the team!

Years 5&6 Div 2 - A win to Karaka White 134/5 against Waiuku 61/5.

A good all round consistent effort by Karaka. Player of the Day Harjot Singh and Merit award to Isaac Bensemann.

Friday 13.11.09

Karaka Blue Yr3/4 Karaka Blue 71 / 3 beat Conifer Grove Hot Hitters 46 / 4

For Karaka Blue Patrick Fulton was Player of the Day with 10 runs and a wicket.

Other top scores were Christian Cutfield 12, Joshua Palmer 8. Wickets to Sean Palmer (diving catch to take a good caught and bowled chance, also direct hit run out from about 15 metres), Joshua Palmer and Patrick Fulton. Once again good commitment by the whole team with some tight bowling and good effort in the field.

Saturday 14.11.09

Yrs 7&8 Division 1 - Firebirds 158/3 vs Stags 99/8

A great first win for the season by the Firebirds!

Sent into bat it took very little time for the top order to settle into scoring runs and with the loss of only three wickets at the end of 30 overs the team was sitting on a very good score. Joshua Plummer 31 (2x6s); Navjot Singh 39; David Gibson 35*; Nathan Brown 27*.

A sustained consistent bowling effort by the Firebirds saw the game completed in the 28th over. Daniel Bayly 2-17 (3 overs); Tyler Forrest 2-14 (4 overs).

This has given the team a huge confidence boost, they now know they can win and win convincingly! Thanks again to coaches Mark & Steve and supporters.

Years 5&6 Div 2

Karaka White 152/10

Karaka Daredevils 92/9

Our first win this season so we had some very happy boys. Player of the day went to Ram Dhindsa who hit 2 sixes and took 3 wickets. The merit award went to Simparpreet Dhindsa with 21 runs and 4 wickets.
