SENIOR CLUB STRUCTURE AND TEAM SELECTION
Below is a description of the way the senior club works. It is listed here for all to clearly see and understand that a prime objective in the running of the senior club is that of absolute fairness.
OBJECTIVES. The senior club shall be structured in such a way that it gives optimum satisfaction to the various needs and desires of all those who play senior cricket. It will be designed with the purpose of meeting the needs of the recreational cricketer, developing cricketer and competition grade cricketer.
It should be remembered that it is the players themselves that choose whether they wish to trial in the Competition grade, or secure for themselves a permanent place in the Development/Recreational grade.
*******************************************************************************************************
PREMIER, SENIOR A, SENIOR B (Competition grades)
1. Selected weekly from a squad of approx 35-40. (Larger squad, if entering more than one team in each competition grade). Selection is made on player merit / performance at either some or all of the following: trials, training, pre season games, match performances.
2. It is recommended that players attend at least one, if not both senior weekly trainings, in order that they give themselves the best opportunity for selection in the highest possible competition grade team.
3. Any weekly shortfall of players in these grades are to come, firstly, from available club players from other grades and secondly, from a ring in list. Players may be utilised from a Reserve grade at the discretion of the Reserve grade player, provided that the Reserve grade team numbers do not reduce below 11.
4. Any Player that is required to play up a grade should either fill the role vacated by the absent player or accept no lesser role than was required of them in the team that they have vacated. The team Captain on the day shall decide the appropriate role for the player concerned.
5. A key role will be that of Competition Grade Manager. The Competition Grade Manager will ensure that all players who have paid a full subscription are given priority in team placement when team selection is made. The Competition Grade Manager will then liaise with the Development/Recreational Manager to endeavour to resolve any player surplus or shortfall.
6. The Club Coach is to be the sole selector of Competition Grade teams, this includes the nominating procedure for Captains and Vice Captains. The Coach may consult with the team Captains or Competition Grade Manager when making the selections. In the event of unavailability of the Club Coach, the Competition Grade Manager or his nominated representative shall make the team selections.
********************************************************************************************************
RESERVE 1, RESERVE 2, 20/20 (Development/Recreational grades)
1. This grade has fixed weekly teams (i.e. teams remain the same throughout the season.)
2. Teams to be decided on by the players themselves; teams may carry extras to cover work or other non-cricket commitments etc. Teams then advise club which grade they wish to enter (R1, R2 or 20/20)
3. A key person (Team Manager) is required for each team as contact. This can be either be the team Captain or a nominated Team Manager . This person is responsible for the day to day running of the team and to liaise with the club management on player or team requirements when necessary.
4. Surplus players may be offered to competition grades at the discretion of the player on offer on a week by week basis, but the R1, R2, teams are not obliged to reduce their player numbers below 11 and 20/20 not below 8 in order to fill the competition grade teams.
5. A further key role in this grade will be that of Development/ Recreational Grade Manager. This Manager will liaise with the individual team Managers in this grade and the Competition Grade Manager to ensure that all players who have paid a full subscription are given priority for team selection when resolving a player surplus or shortfall. Replacement players, subject to suitability and financial status may be utilised from the club junior grades at the discretion of the Development/Recreational Grade Manager.
SELECTION ELIGIBILITY (relating to financial status)
"That in a situation where there are more players than available places in teams, a financial member will take preference to a non-financial member for selection."
"This policy applies to both senior and junior club members and relates to the selection of batting eleven. Twelfth man or non players can only apply to a financial member if the selected batting eleven are also all financial members."
